The LORD Sees the Heart

Rev. Bruce Brown
I. God's Point of View (verses 1-5)
II. Two Ways of Seeing (verses 6:13)
III. Looking on the Heart (verses 1-13)
The lowly sense of personal unworthiness, wondering over Divine love, the eager longing for mercy to pardon and grace to help, faith that grasps the promises, the hope that is anchored within the veil, the kindness that breathes blessings all round, the love that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things – it is these things, breathing forth from the hearts of a congregation, that give pleasure to God. ~ William G. Blaikie

I Samuel 15
Rev. Bruce Brown

II. The Excuses of Sin (verses 10-23)
III. The Glory of Israel (verses 24-31)
“What, then, do we give in gratitude to the God who already has everything? Does he need money or songs or prayers? We should indeed offer these to God in thanks and love. But if we really want to please God – and what could be more worthwhile in all of life? – we will do his will, as it is written in his Book, in the name of Jesus Christ, the true and perfectly righteous king who offered no other sacrifice to God than his own obedient life, shedding his own blood for our sins.” ~ Richard D. Phillips

II. An Argument from the Womb (verses 13-16)
III. Appreciating God's Personal Power (verses 19-24)
“What can be more exquisite in all its parts than the formation of our bodies! Divine skill is manifested in the design of its innumerable members. Wonder is exhausted in the contemplation. Select any part, it proclaims that infinite wisdom devised the plan, and infinite power brought it to perfection. Can this great Creator not have most intimate acquaintance with the beings which He thus formed?” ~ Henry Law

II. The Shepherds Rejoice (Vss. 15-20)
III. Joining the Joy (Vss. 19-20)

Luke 2:25-35
DECEMBER 10th, 2017
Pastor Bruce Brown
I. Simeon's Peace (Vss. 25-32)
II. Peace Through a Sword (Vss. 33-35)
III. Longing for the Prince of Peace (Vss. 25-35)
Pastor Bruce Brown
“The pursuit of peace does not include an easy going, peace-at-any price kind of attitude; it does no include giving in to wrong or injustice for the sake of maintaining appearances. That kind of behavior often leads to strife within ourselves. The conflicts that are disturbing our peace with others must be courageously but graciously faced and dealt with. Pursuing peace does not mean running away from the causes of discord.” ~ Jerry Bridges

III. WAITING IN HOPE (VERSES 11-14)
“I rejoice in that hope - the hope of God's being glorified in Himself and our getting a chance to join Him. The hope we wait for is our only hope, the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is Jesus for whom we have prevailed through all of this suffering, and, oh, for the sweetness of melding one heart into His in that intimacy that is so precious.” ~ Joni Eareckson Tada

Unmasking Unbelief
Unmasking Unbelief
JOHN 7:1-24
REV. BRUCE BROWN
November 12, 2017
I. The Worldly (vss. 1-9)
II. The Whispering (vss. 10-13)
III. The Wrathful (vss. 14-24)
IV. The Willing (vss. 17-18)
Pastor Bruce Brown
“Such is the corruption of human nature that Christ is the cause of division among men, wherever He is preached. So long as the world stands, some, when they hear of Him, will love, and some will hate -- some will believe, and some will believe not. That deep, prophetical saying of His will be continually verified -- "Do not think that I am come to send peace of earth; I came not to send peace, but a sword.” (Matt. 10:34)"

To Whom Shall We Go?
To Whom Shall We Go?
JOHN 6:60-71
November 5th, 2017
Pastor Bruce Brown
I. The Crowd's Departure (Vss. 60-66)
II. Jesus' Challenging Question (Vs. 67)
III. Peter's Committed Answer (Vss. 68-69)
“Do you long for more of the Spirit and for a more vibrant spiritual life? Jesus directs you to His Word. The way to have the Spirit is to have the Word, which the Spirit inspired for our sake. The way to be spiritual is to be biblical. Just as trees and plants grow strong and lush as they are well watered, so also do believers grow strong and firm, happy and holy when they are well watered with the Word of life... Paul put it simply: 'Faith come from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.' (Romans 10:17)”

I. Grace Alone the Only Way
II. Grace Alone Before Time
III. Grace Alone to the Last Day
“The love of God does not find, but creates, that which is pleasing to it… Rather than seeking its own good, the love of God flows forth and bestows good. Therefore sinners are attractive because they are loved; they are not loved because they are attractive.”

Rev. Richard Altork
October 22, 2017
Matthew 13:15-16
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them. 6 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear. (NKJV)

Speaking Grace Under Pressure
October 15, 2017
Rev. Josh Grimm
Acts 21:37-40
"As the soldiers were about to take Paul into the barracks, he asked the commander, “May I say something to you?”“Do you speak Greek?” he replied. “Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand terrorists out into the wilderness some time ago?” Paul answered, “I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.” After receiving the commander’s permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the crowd. When they were all silent, he spoke to them in Aramaic..."

I. Praise the King for His Unmatched Glory (vss 1-6)
II. Give the King His Due (vss 7-9)
III. Worship the King, for He Comes (vss 10-13)
"Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't." - John Piper
Welcome Shaun and Becky Hurrie (Visiting Missionaries)
"Shaun and Becky have four children - Isaac, Anwyn, Elise, and Karis. Shaun was born and raised in South Africa, but has lived in the U.S. since 2002.
They have had the privilege of being active members of Grace Covenant PCA in Hickory since 2003. Shaun served there as a Ruling Elder and the Worship and Children’s Director and Becky served as a Nursery Director.
Since a 2004 Mission's Trip and then a call for Shaun to go to seminary, we have increasingly sensed that God desires for us to serve in Southern Africa. We officially launched with Mission to the World in March of this year and Shaun was set apart for Gospel Ministry in the PCA this past June. As part of preparing for the field long-term our family has moved to Huntersville during the support-raising process. Our desire is to be directly involved with Christian Leadership Training, Church-Plant Support, and Mentoring and Support with the team on the Cape Peninsula."

Rev. Bruce Brown, Pastor
1. The Bread of Life is Sent (verses 41-46)
II. The Bread of Life Saves (verses 47-51)
III. The Bread of Life is a Sacrifice (verses 52-59)
“No one can eat and drink for us, and no one, in like manner, can believe for us. We need food every day, and not once a week or once a month--and, in like manner, we need to employ faith every day. We feel benefit when we have eaten and drunk, we feel strengthened, nourished, and refreshed; and, in like manner, if we believe truly, we shall feel the better for it, by sensible hope and peace in our inward man.” J.C.
