Leaving a Biblical Legacy

Rev. Bruce Brown

Psalm 78:1-8

I. Proclaiming God’s Works (verses 1 -4)

II. Passing on God’s Commands (verses 5-6)

III. Purposing God’s Plan (verses 6-8)

“All Christian parenting… begins with God. There is One ultimate, unchanging Reality, namely, God. All else in parenting comes from Him. All else is for Him. He is the first and the last and the center of parenting and education. He is the main thing in how you rear children and teach children and discipline children. It all begins with God and it all is built on God and it all is to be shaped by God. If there is one memory that our children should have of our families and our church it is this; they should remember God. God was first. God was central. There was a passion for the supremacy of God in all things.”

III.  A Promise for the Future (verses 16-17)

Even more, are we waiting for His coming, as the bride of this psalm was? Jesus came a first time to join us to Himself in spiritual betrothal. He will come a secon time to take us to Himself forever. Are you ready for that coming? Are you looking forward to it?” ~ James Montgomery Boice

Christmas Brings an Invincible Throne

Psalm 2

December 2nd, 2018

      I. The World that Hates (verses 1-3)

II.   The Throne that Overcomes (verses 4-9)

III.  The Message that Calls (verses 10-12)

“The only safe place from the wrath of God is in God. Everywhere outside of His care is dangerous. He is the only hiding place from His own wrath. If you see Him as frightening and try to run away and hide, you will not find a place to hide. There is none. Outside of God’s care there is only wrath. But there is a refuge from the wrath of God, namely, God… Come to God. Take refuge in God. Hide in the shadow of His wings. This is where we live and serve with joyful trembling.”

Psalm 139:13-24

Rev. Bruce Brown

I.   Adoration for God's Power (verses 13-18)

II.  An Argument from the Womb (verses 13-16)

III. Appreciating God's Personal Power (verses 19-24)

“What can be more exquisite in all its parts than the formation of our bodies! Divine skill is manifested in the design of its innumerable members. Wonder is exhausted in the contemplation. Select any part, it proclaims that infinite wisdom devised the plan, and infinite power brought it to perfection. Can this great Creator not have most intimate acquaintance with the beings which He thus formed?”  ~  Henry Law

Praise and Worship the King of the World

Psalm 96

Rev. Shaun Hurrie

October 8, 2017

                    I.   Praise the King for His Unmatched Glory (vss 1-6)

II.  Give the King His Due (vss 7-9)

III. Worship the King, for He Comes (vss 10-13)

"Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't." - John Piper

Welcome Shaun and Becky Hurrie (Visiting Missionaries)

"Shaun and Becky have four children - Isaac, Anwyn, Elise, and Karis. Shaun was born and raised in South Africa, but has lived in the U.S. since 2002.

They have had the privilege of being active members of Grace Covenant PCA in Hickory since 2003. Shaun served there as a Ruling Elder and the Worship and Children’s Director and Becky served as a Nursery Director.

Since a 2004 Mission's Trip and then a call for Shaun to go to seminary, we have increasingly sensed that God desires for us to serve in Southern Africa. We officially launched with Mission to the World in March of this year and Shaun was set apart for Gospel Ministry in the PCA this past June. As part of preparing for the field long-term our family has moved to Huntersville during the support-raising process. Our desire is to be directly involved with Christian Leadership Training, Church-Plant Support, and Mentoring and Support with the team on the Cape Peninsula."

I.   THE WORD OF THE LORD (VSS 7-9)

II.   WHAT THE WORD OF LORD BRINGS (VSS 7-9)

III.  HOW TO SAVOR THE WORD (VSS 10-11)

Pastor Bruce Brown

“The challenge before us... is not merely to do what God says because he is God, but to desire what /god says because he is good.  The challenge is not merely to pursue righteousness, but to prefer righteousness.  The challenge is to get up in the morning and prayerfully meditate on the Scriptures until we experience joy and peace in believing 'the precious and very great promises of God' (Romans 15:13; 2 Peter 1:4).” ~ John Piper

Q. What is your only comfort in life and death?

A.  That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.  He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.  Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.                                          Heidelberg Catechism Question and Answer #1
